Nahum Pratt oral history, 1963-1964.

In this interview, Nahum Pratt discusses his personal history and shares his observations of the New York State food processing industry. Topics include: his student experiences at Hamilton College; his operation of a canning plant during the 1930's, including the effect of the New Deal on the industry, and canning beef made from animals slaughtered because of the midwest drought of 1934; forming a treaty with the Cattaraugus Indians to lease a canning plant in 1942; and his observations of labor conditions in canning plants, the catchup industry, and the impact of the mechanical bean harvestor in New York State.
